This year Park Manor Senior Public School ran a grade seven girls media group called SHIFT (shaping and helping youth form tomorrow) with the help of staff from the Cambridge YWCA. This group consisted of 10 girls who were devoted to spreading a positive message and wanted to empower women and girls in their community. They were involved in several girl led projects at the school which included a bake sale, graffiti art with sidewalk chalk, positive affirmations posted around the school on sticky notes, and a lemonade and freeze sale. As a result, the girls were able to donate over $300 to “Because I am a girl” and “the girl effect”. These two charities focus on helping girls get an education and get out of poverty who are living in third world countries. The girls had a lot of fun being part of the group and felt fortunate to be to able to take a stand on anti-feminism and fight against it!
